GHATAM

Originally commissioned for Kaldearte – an outdoor festival in Bilbao, Spain – by FreeArt, Ghatam is inspired by Steve Reichʼs Drumming music composition. The choreography brings imaginative expression to the beautiful and unique sound of the ghatam, a classical Indian percussion instrument made of fired red clay. In this piece the ‘dance-drummers’ create a playful, dynamic expression of the four core characterful, percussive sounds of the ghatam.
